Minor fire aboard Indian Naval Corvette, INS Kamorta

A minor fire was reported on board INS Kamorta, a recently commissioned anti-submarine warfare stealth corvette of the Indian Navy.
According to Indian Naval sources, the fire was detected in the engine room, and no injuries were reported. The compartment was evacuated and the fire was brought under control by on board fire systems.
INS Kamorta was commissioned on 23rd August 2014 at the Garden Reach Shipbuilding & Engineering, Kolkata.
As per a naval expert, ‘An introspection is required regarding standard of material, training, exploitation patterns and maintenance procedures.’
According to noted security expert Abhijit Bhattacharyya, ‘The Indian Navy has been plagued by many such minor, as well as some major incident for sometime now.’ It is worth noting that in 2013,  INS Kamorta had run aground during trials on the Hooghly near Geonkhali in East Midnapore, India.
