China’s PLAGF Kills Indian Army Colonel & Two Soldiers In Eastern Ladakh

During the ongoing face-off between Indian Army (IA) and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF) in various sectors of the Ladakh-Tibet Theatre, late last night on 15-16 June 2020, a Commanding Officer of an IA INFANTRY Battalion and two of his soldiers lost their lives in an engagement with Chinese troops.

According to a short, albeit ambiguous, statement released by the IA some time ago:

“During the de-escalation process underway in the Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place yesterday night with casualties.

The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers. Senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation.”

Highly placed sources have indicated that the Commanding Officer of 16 Battalion, Bihar Regiment, which has been in the area of Galwan Valley for a while, lost his life in action along with two other soldiers of the same unit in the physical skirmish that ensued.

The Indian Army and the PLAGF have been engaged in an ongoing face-off along the Line Of Actual Control of the Indo-Tibet Frontier since April 2020. The Army statement suggests the local Military Commanders have rushed to the area to defuse the situation.
